Trying to get that word count down so you can submit your work? Here are three quick and easy ways to eliminate wordiness in your fiction writing.

1. Search for uses of “There was” or “There were” and reword.

“There was” isn’t a strong way to begin a sentence and can almost always be improved by using a stronger verb. As a bonus, you’ll almost always lower that word count!

Example: There was a haunted house at the end of the road. (11 words)
